Neoneco has a new speaker peripheral for your iPod collection - the iPod Swing Speaker. Arriving first in the Korean market, this rechargeable stereo speaker is hooked to the rear side of a crystal case, capable of 10 hours of continuous audio playback when fully charged. There will be three models available to cater for iPod nano 3G, iPod Classic and iPod touch owners, with each individual iPod Swing Speaker retailing for approximately $30, $32 and$35, respectively.

New Skypephone from 3

UK network operator 3 have released images, and technical specifications for their new Skypephone – the S2, and, by the looks of it, it won’t be all that much more expensive than the current one. Although, you won’t get a choice of colour this time around – only black will be available – initially at least. 3 say it will retail for under £70 on a non-contract (Pay As You Go) – the current Skypephone retails for £49.99, so it’s safe to presume the new one will retail for £69.99, or thereabouts. It will be available from August 18th.

The technical specifications are as follows:

Connectvity: HSDPA
Display: 2.2”, with QVGA resolution
Camera: 3.2 megapixels
Memory: 50MB internal, with MicroSD slot, up to 4GB supported
Extras: Modem drivers built-in, allowing the S2 to be used as dongle on a Windows PC or Apple Mac

Dimensions: 103×45x14 mm

Mobile phone found in jail birthday cake

The chaplain of Mountjoy Jail in Dublin was used unwittingly yesterday in an attempt to smuggle a mobile phone into the jail — in a birthday cake. The Belfast Telegraph reports.

“… Since x-ray machines were introduced, the smuggling of drugs and mobile phones into Mountjoy through visitors has ceased and the price of purchasing a phone in the jail has jumped dramatically.

Gemei X780 Touch Screen PMP Unveiled

Gemei has an exciting new PMP that is about to be released. The serial number comes after this gaming PMP, but the X780 has little in common with the X760. The X780 also represents Gemei’s first dip into the iPhone cloning business. The company has been specializing in PMP-emulation devices like the X900 and the X590 among others and had little time to join the Apple-imitation bandwagon. Their first try is a boxy 3-inch WQVGA PMP with TV out, FM tuner.

Sony Ericsson Announces Three New Walkman Phones

Today Sony Ericsson added three handsets to its Walkman lineup of phones. All three feature quad-band GSM/EDGE radios, stereo Bluetooth and FM radios. They will be available in select markets in the fourth quarter.

W902: This high-end, bar-style music phone has many of Sony Ericsson’s signature music applications and services, such as SenseMe and Shake Control. It also carries a 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and image/video stabilization. It comes preloaded with Google Maps, the Access NetFront HTML browser, and Microsoft’s Exchange ActiveSync software for mobile email. It also has a scratch-resistant, 2.2-inch QVGA display. It will be boxed with an 8GB M2 memory card, but only supports European 3G networks.

First S60 Touch UI Screenshots Appear, Look Promising

A small bunch of S60 Touch UI screens popped up today over at Mobile Royale, and they don’t look half bad. The design has big on-screen buttons, clean design, and easy to read menus. The only item of concern is how narrow the header and footer bars are when the OS is in landscape mode. Seems like a breeding ground for repeated tapping.

8MP cameraphone from as-yet-unknown Chinese manufacturer

The megapixel battle isn’t just heating up in Europe, but Asia too, it would seem. The manufacturer isn’t known, but the model number is – X908. Though the phone sports an 8MP sensor, it’s possible that the megapixels are interpolated, ala the Xcute DV2, and the iMobile 902. As is mainly the case with these handsets, don’t expect to see them readily available in Europe.

Messaging-focused LG KS360 to be released in Europe this week

LG is to release a messaging-focused phone, with a QWERTY keyboard in Europe this week. Pricing is currently unknown. It is set to launch in a host of colours, including titanium and bright blue, white and soft pink, black and red, and black and silver. By the looks of it, it’s intended for the text-mad youth market.
