Nextel Communications announced a Q1 2004 profit of $591 million, nearly triple that of the same quarter last year. The company added 474,000 subscribers in the quarter. Motorola’s Q1 revenues were nearly $2 billion more than expectations, over a 40% gain. Profit for the quarter came to $609 million, up from $169 million in the same quarter a year earlier.

Sprint PCS had a great quarter, adding over 414,000 net new customers. Counting additions from wholesale and affiliate partners the number swells to 558,000. Annualized data revenues were $713 million, a 32 percent improvement from the fourth quarter.
Sprint’s two stocks will be combined on April 23rd.
