Nextel Communications announced a Q1 2004 profit of $591 million, nearly triple that of the same quarter last year. The company added 474,000 subscribers in the quarter. Nextel’s bread and butter, average monthly revenue per subscriber, sat at an impressive $67. However, the monthly subscriber revenue was at $70 last quarter.

Motorola stock surges on increased profits

Due to an excellent earnings report announced after the market close yesterday, shares of Motorola (MOT) are up over 20%.
Motorola’s Q1 revenues were nearly $2 billion more than expectations, over a 40% gain. Profit for the quarter came to $609 million, up from $169 million in the same quarter a year earlier.

Sprint PCS adds over 400,000 customers

Sprint PCS had a great quarter, adding over 414,000 net new customers. Counting additions from wholesale and affiliate partners the number swells to 558,000. Annualized data revenues were $713 million, a 32 percent improvement from the fourth quarter.
Sprint’s two stocks will be combined on April 23rd.
