First Tri-Band CDMA Phone Approved By FCC

January 24th, 2008 · Source [Phone Scoop] · No Comments

The UTStarcom CDM-7126 recently cleared the FCC’s approval process. This is the first phone to support CDMA 850/1900 and 1700 AWS bands, making it the first tri-band CDMA phone. This phone can be used by carriers such as Cricket, MetroPCS and US Cellular, which all have AWS spectrum purchased in the 2006 auction. Otherwise, the 7126 is a basic clamshell similar to the 7125. It has Bluetooth, but only indicator lights on the outside rather than an external display. It is limited to 1xRTT data. No release date or pricing information is available yet, and no carriers have stated that they will carry this phone.
