Sony Ericsson has filed a patent application for “orientation based multiple mode mechanically vibrated touchscreen display. Probably the company will use this development for its PSP phone. According to the patent application, this will be a handset with a full touchscreen display, accelerometer (or other orientation sensor), no physical buttons, and a screen feedback set-up to be reconfigured through software between PSP and phone functionality.

The display is somewhat divided into several areas, including a “display inside a display”, a numeric keypad, gaming elements and so on. The device is convenient to use as a media player or a camera with the screen content rotating automatically depending on the device orientation.
