The HTC Shift X9000 is finally available for pre-order in the United States. I am not really sure why I still filed it under Hot Gadgets, the temperature has pretty much cooled on this one.
HTC announced the Shift almost one year ago to the day. If you still feel excited, the price still has not come down, despite the strong push of low-cost Linux based UMPCs.
The HTC Shift is selling for $1,499 on Amazon.com. There is no shipping date given yet.
One of the highlights of the Shift is its Sprint EV-DO connection. Laptop Magazine has a review of the HTC Shift up and they call it the “best surfing experience of any UMPC”. If HTC would offer this “experience” under $800, it would have a chance on the market.
