Garmin Deal Adds GPS to Palm Phones

Garmin has announced add-on software and hardware that will add GPS functions to Palm Treo and Centro smartphones. The Palm GPS Navigator includes a GPS receiver that hooks up to the phone in some unspecified way and Garmin’s Mobile XT software on an SD card.

The software includes a database with millions of points of interest; maps covering the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico; support for spoken directions and online updates that cover data such as local gas prices and weather forecasts. The package will cost $250 when it goes on sale late next month.
