NEC has revealed to the world that it successfully developed a real-time translator on a cellphone, making it the first of its kind in the world. Currently, it will turn Japanese traveller’s words into English instantly, bridging the communications gap by more than a mile. This is made possible by storing the software on a small microchip that can fit right inside a cellphone, capable of recognizing approximately 50,000 Japanese words for smooth translation of travel phrases such as “Can I have a subway route map?”. While it is possible to come up with a vocal English translation technically, NEC is not going to entertain that idea at this point in time.
