Verizon Communications and Motorola both announced sales of business units this morning. The moves should allow both companies to focus on their core strengths: for Verizon that means the US industry and wireless while Motorola is looking to focus solely on communications . Verizon sold its Caribbean and Latin American operations for $3.7B to Mexican telecom maverick Carlos Slim Helu. Motorola sold its automotive electronics business for $1B to Continental AG.
