Today Motorola announced two new femtocells that are meant to be used in homes to boost indoor wireless performance. The 8000 Series provides simple wireless coverage and plugs into an Ethernet connection to access the mobile operator network via the Internet. The 8100 Series adds functionality, including a 4-port Ethernet gateway, VoIP support, USB ports, and an 802-11 b/g Wi-Fi router. Both are managed by Motorola’s NBBS system, and will support WiMax, GSM/UMTS and CDMA operators. No network operators, however, have said they will support or deploy these products.
