Microsoft announced a new limited edition Zune today to commemorate the release of Joy Division. The designer artwork on the Zune is by Peter Saville. The custom Zune will come pre-loaded with the Joy Division documentary film.
The artwork on the Zune itself comes from Joy Division’s “Unknown Pleasures” album. The custom Zune is limited to only 500 devices and will go on sale on June 17th at $399.99. The Zune marketplace will also feature outtakes from the DVD movie loaded onto the special Zune player.
“Partnering with Zune gives us a unique platform to tell the story of an iconic band and present something special to their fans,” said Tom Atencio, the film’s co-producer. “It also opens the door to a whole new world of possibilities regarding innovative promotion and distribution methods for independent films.”
