WiMAX Forum expects a 133 million WiMAX user base by 2012. The forecast is based on the recent research, the results of which will be unveiled in April. The experts believe that over 70% of WiMAX users will access the Internet from mobile phones or portable devices in 2012. The key driving force for WiMAX will be implementation of the standard in Asia Pacific and America, this technology is expected to head the list of wideband Internet access opportunities there.
The first officially certified products for mobile WiMAX come to the market in 2Q 08, notes WiMAX Forum. This will speed up the technology currently applied by over 260 service providers in 110 countries. Under the company’s estimates more than 1000 certified products for Mobile WiMAX will be sold worldwide by 2011.
