A group of nine U.S. television broadcasting organizations has teamed up to create the Open Mobile Video Coalition. The goal of the TV industry alliance will be to develop their own version of mobile TV technology for consumer devices using spectrum already in use. The technology would be controlled by this alliance and its members, rather than by companies such as Cingular or Verizon Wireless. The coalition owns 281 TV stations in 110 U.S. markets. While LG and Samsung have announced some consumer electronics devices that can capture digital TV signals, none of them are cellphones.
