Sprint, Verizon Come to Qualcomm’s Defense

March 22nd, 2007 · Source · No Comments

Sprint and Verizon have petitioned the International Trade Commission (ITC) to allow the continued sale of phones with Qualcomm chips in the US. The petition was presented at an ITC hearing in response to Broadcom’s attempt to ban Qualcomm from importing specific chips that infringe on a Broadcom patent concerning power management. Sprint and Verizon contend that any ban would have severe repercussions for their respective businesses and would ultimately hurt consumer choice by disrupting competition for wireless broadband subscribers. The hearing is being held to determine possible outcomes for the case.
