Sprint will launch Loopt location sharing service on its CDMA network in the next few weeks. Loopt allows users to share their GPS location with a pre-approved list of friends. The application also includes mapping of status messages and photos, which can be used to create a quick location based blog for friends. The carrier already offers Loopt on Boost iDEN handsets, however with the shift to fixed-price CDMA calling, Boost is no longer Sprint’s youth-focused network. The service will cost $3 per month and will be available on about 20 handsets. Helio, an MVNO that also operates on Sprint’s network offers a similar Buddy Beacon for free.
