Today Sprint further confirmed its plans to launch WiMAX networks in several markets in the U.S. Sprint had previously announced three trial cities (Baltimore, Chicago, and Washington, D.C.) to test its WiMAX networks beginning late this year. In a press release today, Sprint noted that it will launch its WiMAX mobile broadband service commercially starting in the second quarter of 2008 after the successful completion of those trials. Sprint expects to cover up to 100 million people with its WiMAX network, but did not say how soon additional cities would be added.
