Sprint Passes on MediaFLO

February 16th, 2007 · Source · No Comments

After completing its trial of Qualcomm’s MediaFLO technology in January, Sprint has chosen to pass on using the network to deliver live mobile TV services to its customers. Sprint’s decision could be based on a number of factors, including the forthcoming launch of its WiMAX network. According to a Sprint spokesperson the decision is not final, however, and Sprint may revisit the technology in the future. The choice was announced in the wake of AT&T’s (Cingular’s) notification that it would use MediaFLO for mobile TV services later this year. T-Mobile is currently trialling the MediaFLO network and Alltel recently announced that it will begin a trial as well. Verizon Wireless has announced that it will launch mobile TV services using MediaFLO by the end of March.
