According to The Telegraph, a Spanish mortuary has created a service allowing mourners to send condolences to grieving relatives by text message.”The M30 mortuary in Madrid, Spain is publishing daily lists in local newspapers of those who have died.
Each of the deceased has a code number, which must be included along with the text message and a keyword, which can be sent to an automated number similar to the ones used by reality television programs.
The texts are charged at the rate of €1.20 ($2.10) plus VAT. Messages are either sent straight to a mobile or go to the mortuary, which hands them on.
The mortuary’s marketing manager, José Salvador, said messages were filtered so that nothing hurtful or tactless reached relatives. “It makes things easier for people who are far away or do not know how to contact the family,” he said.
