Qualcomm has purchased the mobile WiMAX technology assets of TeleCIS Wireless. TeleCIS has developed both mobile and fixed WiMAX technology and sold its 802.16e mobile WiMAX capabilities for an undisclosed amount. In the past Qualcomm had downplayed WiMAX technology, touting its CDMA wireless broadband capabilities instead. This move represents a change in stance for the chipmaker. It will now have greater knowledge of the OFDM radio technology that serves as the basis for 4G networking. TeleCIS will continue to market and sell its fixed WiMAX products.
