Nokia Siemens Networks has successfully field tested new EDGE technology that doubles downlink speeds compared to today’s EDGE networks. Nokia Siemens Networks’ Dual Carrier EDGE is a software-based solution that can double data speeds to 592Kbps on existing EDGE-capable GSM networks. Dual Carrier EDGE, based on the 3GPP release 7 standard, is the first step in the evolution of EDGE. Nokia Siemens Networks is already working on the next generation of EDGE, called EGPRS 2B, which will offer downlink speeds of up to 1.2Mbps and uplink speed to up to 473Kbps.
