Today Nokia unveiled the latest updates to its S60 operating system, including the ability to work with touch screen devices. S60 will be compatible with several different combinations of touch screen devices, such as touch and regular keypad, touch and QWERTY keyboard, and full touch screen interfaces. Current S60 3rd Edition applications will work seamlessly on touch screen devices without any modifications. It will also support haptic feedback. Another addition to S60 will be better sensor support, such as motion, orientation, proximity and light. This will allow for more interactive applications to be developed. Lastly, S60 will fully deliver video via the mobile web by integrating Flash Video into the S60 web browser. The new platform won’t be ready for devices until some time in 2008.
