Multi-Core Technology Coming To Smartphones

October 3rd, 2007 · Source [Symbian] · No Comments

Symbian today announced it will support ARM’s symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) technology in future versions of its OS. SMP will allow Symbian based phones to use chips that have more than one processor, the same way that modern computers use multi-core chips. Symbian based phones will only use one of the cores in standby or when running simple tasks to save power, but for more processor hungry multimedia applications or games, the additional core(s) can be activated. The first smartphones with this technology are not expected until 2010.
