Motorola today announced two upgraded devices it hopes will bring Linux into the hands of mainstream users - even in the US. The company has also announced it will launch another music-focused series series of phones, this time focusing on integration with Windows Media.

• RIZR Z6: a sleeker take on the RIZR Z3, the Z6 has an angular glossy look to it. Has all the same features as the Z3, including quad-band GSM/EDGE, 2 Megapixel camera with flash, stereo Bluetooth and MicroSD slot. However the Z6 now runs Motorola’s Linux-Java platform and features a music player with tight integration into Windows Media Player 11. Due out in some countries this quarter.
• Ming EDGE: An update to the A1200 Ming sold in Asia, this version has the same look but adds quad-band GSM and EDGE to the touch-screen based smartphone. The Ming also features stereo Bluetooth, a 2 Megapixel camera, MicroSD slot and new software that allows you to write words in your native language on the screen and have the Ming speak them in another language.
