Linux Group Officially Launches As LiMo Foundation

January 26th, 2007 · Source · No Comments

The carriers and manufacturers who last year announced they would organize around mobile Linux officially announced their group today. Motorola, Samsung, NEC, Panasonic and carriers NTT DoCoMo and Vodafone are the first members of the LiMo Foundation. Last year this group announced they would work together to solidify a mobile focused Linux distribution and safeguard it from fragmentation. The group has since expanded its mission to include supporting a developer ecosystem for third party applications as well as bringing hardware suppliers on board to create Linux-friendly chips and reference platforms.
