LG to Exit CDMA Market in India

August 1st, 2007 · Source [Wireless Week] · No Comments

According to a report in the Economic Times, LG is considering discontinuing CDMA handset sales in India, citing competition from low-cost Chinese handsets. According to the report, the handset manufacturer is looking to focus on high-end GSM handsets instead.

LG Indian’s Managing Director Moon B Shin told the newspaper that the company is “bleeding in the CDMA market” and that it will exit the business if it doesn’t make a profit soon.

LG’s CDMA handset revenues shrank worldwide to $250 million in 2006 from $300 million in 2005 and the company has set an even lower estimate for this year aiming to sell only 7 million CDMA units, down from 9 million in 2006.
