LG has become a member of the Open Mobile Terminal Platform (OMTP) organization, joining other handset manufacturers such as Motorola and Nokia, and operators such as Cingular and T-Mobile. The OMTP’s goal is to simplify the use of wireless data services for end users. Right now, the lack of consistency and poor usability are hampering wireless data use. The organization uses four working groups (software, hardware, security and user experience) to forge recommendations for the mobile industry. By streamlining the complex service supply chain for mobile data and creating unified standards, the OMTP hopes to make it easier for end users to access and use wireless data services.
