Google Readying to Bid In Spectrum Auction

November 17th, 2007 · Source [Phone Scoop] · No Comments

GoogleGoogle is more seriously eyeing the FCC 700 MHz auction and is preparing its finances in order to be able to bid in the auction. Google is already operating a temporary wireless network in its Mountain View facility to test its Android platform. A Google representative told the Wall Street Journal that it wants to make mobile networks more open, so consumers can use any Internet service and application and move their handsets between carriers without restrictions. Google initially said it would bid only if certain conditions were met. Even though only some of the conditions were built into the final auction rules, Google is targeting the C block of spectrum. Google could use the spectrum to run its own wireless network. The deadline for announcing intent to bid is December 3.
