Cox Communications confirmed that it is interested in offering cellular telephone services. Speaking to the press, Cox president Patrick Essar said that the company will “focus on providing simple calling plans, integrating all our services into one device with a consistent cross-platform interface; and making our content and applications mobile.” Cox recently won some wireless spectrum in the recent 700MHz auction held by the FCC. Essar said the company plans to spend about $500 million developing wireless services. No time frame for providing the services was given, nor were any markets specified.
