5 new iPaq handhelds announced by HP

September 6th, 2007 · Source [Unwired View] · No Comments

We told you that full new HP iPAQ line-up is coming. We just didn’t think it will come so soon. Just a few hours after we published the info about upcoming new iPAQ’s, HP has officially announced them during major presentation event in New York.

One thing’s for sure. HP is no Apple and not even Nokia, when it comes to building buzz about their new products. How come nobody even breathed that there is a major HP/Compaq product launch event coming?!

Anyway, enough with the rant, let’s get back to the products.
There were 5 new iPaq handhelds announced by HP:

HP iPAQ 900 Series Business Messenger represented by HP iPAQ 910/914 quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE and Tri-band HSDPA Windows Mobile 6 Pro messaging device with 3 mpx camera, A-GPS, Wi-Fi connectivity and full QWERTY keyboard.

HP iPAQ 600 Series Business Navigator featuring HP iPAQ 610/614 quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE and Tri-band HSDPA, A-GPS, Wi-Fi Windows Mobile 6 Pro PDA/phone with Smart Touch Wheel, three-way thumb wheel and a touchscreen for single handed navigation.

HP iPAQ 300 Series Travel Companion - represented by HP iPAQ 310/314 Bluetooth enabled, Windows CE 5 based Navigation device with custom HP interface, Windows Media DRM supporting music/video player . HP iPAQ 310/314 can also double as a Bluetooth based handsfree answering system for you cellphone.

HP iPAQ 200 Series Enterprise Handheld - with HP iPAQ 210/214 Windows Mobile 6 Classic based Pocket PC featuring a big 4″ 260K Color 480×640 px (VGA) resolution touch panel display, WI-Fi b/g with WPA2 security and quite a few Enterprise security and productivity applications

HP iPAQ 100 Series Classic handheld - represented by a HP iPAQ 110/114 traditional PDA with Windows Mobile 6 Classic OS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Microsoft Mobile Office and Personal Productivity applications

As you can see we’ve got right most of the things about new iPAQs yesterday. We missed Wi-Fi connectivity in iPAQ 100 series and the accurate description of various interface navigation options on iPAQ 610/614. And there still is some confusion about the numbering schemes.

We’ve got the series numbers for new devices right, but the actual numbers for the iPAQs presented in New York has 10s instead 14s (as in iPaq 610 instead of 614). My guess is that it’s the regional thing and when they get to Europe the new iPAQs will have 4s at the end, with 8s going for Asia.
