Sprint signs with Sierra for EV-DO cards

Sprint will a high-speed data access card from Sierra Wireless later this year once it activates EV-DO. Sprint hopes to have 60 cities covered by EV-DO by early 2006. The first cities should be active starting in the second half of 2005.

Sprint said it would sell the Sierra Wireless AirCard 580 to business customers for $299.99 with service plans ranging from $40 a month to $80 a month for unlimited usage. It plans to announce more pricing details in the near future.

An earlier announcement points to four EV-DO phones being available when the network launches.

Verizon Wireless is currently the only EV-DO high-speed data provider in the US. Its BroadbandAccess service that is made for laptops is available for $79.99 and allows unlimited use.
