A Samsung executive yesterday let it be known that Samsung would ship a mobile phone using the EV-DO high-speed data standard in early 2005. It was not revealed what phone or what carrier would be involved. Since Verizon Wireless already has a working EV-DO network (it’s called BroadbandAccess), they are our best guess.

As for the phone, at the same event the executive was speaking at, the Samsung i730 was shown off. Besides a sliding keyboard, the i730 sports EV-DO. Besides EV-DO, features of the i730 include:

• 65K color TFT
• 64MB memory
