ALLTEL launches EV-DO

ALLTEL has launched EV-DO, high-speed wireless download technology, in three markets. The three cities are: Tampa, Cleveland and Akron, Ohio. ALLTEL is calling the service Axcess Broadband which is very close to Verizon Wireless’ BroadbandAccess. Unlimited Axcess Broadband service costs $69.99 per month.

With this launch, ALLTEL becomes the second carrier in the US to launch the technology (behind Verizon Wireless). Sprint PCS is expected to launch their EV-DO network sometime in the third quarter.
