Verizon has dropped its lawsuit against the FCC over the open spectrum rules for the 700 MHz auction. The carrier decided to drop its case after its appeal for a speedy resolution was denied earlier this month. However the CTIA has stepped in to challenge the same rules as Verizon. The industry’s umbrella group is not trying to stop or delay the auction, but is seeking to overturn the open access restrictions on 22 MHz of the spectrum. It claims the rules for use of those blocks go against previous FCC rulings and are unrealistic in the US wireless marketplace.
