Om Malik provides a preview of the upcoming NEC e232. It’s an attempt by NEC to tap into the US consumer level mobile phone market. Features of the NEC e232 include:

• Fitness applications(BMI index, calorie counting, max heart rate tracking, etc)
• EDGE high-speed data
• VGA camera
• 5MB of available memory

Cingular Wireless should start shipping the e232 in November. Pricing is said to run $249.99 though that will likely come down with rebates.
