AT&T (Cingular) chief technology officer Kris Rinne confirmed in an interview that AT&T will be upgrading its 3G wireless broadband with high-speed uplink packet access (HSUPA) in the middle of 2007. The update to high-speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) improves speeds both on the up and down links. The combined technologies are called high speed packet access (HSPA). Uplink speeds are boosted to 1.8 megabits per second, and downlink speeds will reach 7.2 megabits per second. Real world speeds for HSDPA were in the 400 to 700 kilobit per second range. HSPA real speeds will be faster than that, but AT&T is not releasing any guidelines on what they will be. AT&T is planning to trial the technology in April and launch later this year,
