According to the Wall Street Journal, Motorola is planning to market it’s “M-Wallet” service to U.S. consumers. The service allows shoppers to purchase products by waving their cell phone with an embedded chip over scanners at cash registers across America. This follows on the heals of similar products in Asia that are quite popular with consumers. Before a U.S. launch, motorola must ink deals with wireless providers before consumers will see the service.

The M-Wallet software would be downloaded from the wireless providers web site to the phone, each provider would set their own cost for the service.

According to the Wall Street Journal, wireless providers in the U.S. are already testing similar technologies, such as Cingular’s test in Atlanta that allows season ticket holders to by food at concession stands during events, though participants in the test must hold a Chase issued Visa credit card.
