Hop-On Releases $10 HOP1800 anti-iPhone

May 23rd, 2008 · Source [I4U] · No Comments

HOP1800Hop-On has released a cheap disposable cell phone called the HOP1800 that it refers to as the anti-iPhone. The HOP1800 is available across the country for only $10. The device is a dual-band 850/1900MHz handset for the US.

A version for Europe is available that works on the 900/1800MHz frequencies. The weight is only 77 grams and the device has 4 hours of talk time and 150 hours of standby time. Despite the low cost Hop-On says the phone uses the Infineon chipset for good call quality. The company also offers a $5 mail-in rebate to encourage users to return the phones for recycling. The phone has no LCD, camera or anything else; it simply makes and receives calls.

“Though the iPhone is an amazing device, I challenge anyone to make a call faster than with the HOP1800,” says Hop-On CEO Peter Michaels. “With the cost of living and roaming fees going through the roof, the HOP1800 is also the perfect iPhone traveling companion. Just buy a local SIM card and you can use the HOP1800 with over 40 domestic wireless carriers,” Michaels said.
