Qualcomm has introduced prototypes of two mobile devices – Fairbanks and Anchorage. The company will offer these samples for manufacturers so they can make their products. The first model is a portable media player with GPS. It is equipped with a big touch-sensitive display, a 3-megapixel camera, a digital TV receiver and an expansion slot for micro-SD cards. The device is powered by Windows CE with dedicated user’s interface.

The Anchorage is based on Qualcomm Snapdragon 1 GHz platform and supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and cell connectivity. The product also features a camera and digital TV broadcasting. This is a slider with the QWERTY-keyboard, powered by Windows Mobile 5.0. However we deal with a demo sample, so it will definitely come to stores with higher OS version.

Many OEM-makers can take the Fairbanks and Anchorage as the basis and change the original specs. The new devices are expected on the market by the end of 2008 or in the beginning of 2009.
