It looks like the 12 MP cameraphone scene just got a little more crowded with Altek’s T8680. Not that Sony Ericsson or Samsung will be too worried since this beast seems to be confined to China for the moment. Apart from the 12 MP camera the T8680 also sports a 3 inch WQVGA screen, x3 optical zoom, FM radio, xenon flash and tri-band GSM/EDGE.

It’s probably just as well for the major manufacturers that the T8680 is limited to the Chinese market as its price tag is less than $500, which is pretty good for a 12 MP cameraphone! Sony Ericsson has its own 12 MP behemoth, Satio, coming later this year, and Samsung is rolling with the Pixon 12 MP. Rumour has itt hat Nokia too will jump on the 12 MP bandwagon later this year, but that’s more likely to be an announcement than a product launch.
