Today, the Wibree Forum announced that it will cease operating alone and is joining the Bluetooth Special Interest Group. Wibree technology is similar to Bluetooth in that it is used for personal area networks, but it can function in devices that have less power, such as watches. The Bluetooth SIG feels that Wibree can compliment existing Bluetooth technology and round out its ability to provide more connectivity options to a wider range of devices. Wibree was developed by Nokia and announced late last year.
