Some major companies recently filed documents in the NTP versus RIM lawsuit. We’ve covered this suit many times in the past, but basically NTP has some patents that RIM is allegedly infringing. A settelment was reached, but then NTP’s patents started to be rejected by the US Patent Office.

Recently Intel, Microsoft and Seven entered the case. They have made their opinions known on whether US patents can be enforced in other countries. RIM argues that because its servers (and company) are based in Canada, even if there is patent infringement it does not apply since they are US patents.

Both Seven and Intel agree with RIM while Microsoft agrees with NTP.
