Briefly– Research In Motion has announced that the SEC made an informal inquiry into RIM’s stock-option grants and practices. Several high-profile tech companies have recently been subject to increased scrutiny over option practices. The list includes Silicon Valley juggernaut Apple. RIM recently stated that its original estimate of an accounting related charge on earnings of $25-45 million will substantially increase because of additional errors found during the audit process.
