DLO Introduces OpenFM for iPhone

September 2nd, 2007 · Source [MobileTechReview] · No Comments

OpenFM Actively Polls Radio Station Locations to Determine the Clearest FM Frequencies Available for Your FM TransmitterFor users looking to find the best FM frequency for their favorite DLO FM Transmitter, DLO has launched OpenFM. Available immediately, OpenFM is a free iPhone application (dlo.com/openfm) that enables users to instantly find the top-performing frequencies in their area. Searchable by zipcode or city/state, OpenFM pulls its results in real-time from an active database, not a flat file, thus ensuring the most accurate and up-to-date information available.

OpenFM is the perfect solution for TransDock users on-the-go. As they enter unfamiliar areas, users simply pull up OpenFM on their iPhone browser, enter the city and state, and immediately receive the top seven frequencies in that area. One tap on the iPhone screen brings a larger view of the selected frequency, so users can easily see what they should tune their radio to. In addition to frequency results, OpenFM will also provide a link to a Google map of the area queried.

The OpenFM application actively searches an FCC-provided database of licensed FM broadcasters and, using complex algorithms, matches that information against known locations of radio towers to determine the highest quality FM frequencies to use. Results are returned ranked in three categories, from “Best Bet” to “Good” to “OK” quality. And, unlike similar services, OpenFM will work for any city across all 50 states.

In addition to the iPhone application, DLO is also offering a web-based version on dlo.com, and will be rolling out an OpenFM widget for both Mac and Windows platforms in the coming weeks.
