Apple Refusing Cash For iPhones, Limit Two Per Customer

Apple Refusing Cash For iPhones

Apple will no longer accept cash for iPhone purchases and will only sell two per person. The measure is aimed at nipping the holiday season reseller market in the bud.

The former rule helps enforce the latter. And yes, it’s totally legal to refuse cash: under the coinage act of 1965, for debts you must accept cash, but for sale items you merely have to accept a form of U.S. currency. You can’t buy a house with pennies, and now you can’t buy iPhones with bills.

You might be able to get around it by using Discover’s free single-use credit card number system, though they’re probably checking against names, not numbers. You can definitely get around it by paying a pal to buy handsets for you.
