Venturi Mini: A2DP Bluetooth adapter for cars

Venturi Mini

NextGen Venturi today unveiled the Venturi Mini, a new music phone and MP3 adapter designed for in-car music as well as voice calls that works with Apple’s iPhone (only via line-out and not via Bluetooth, as it requires A2DP support on the handset). The device introduces the first true convergence of Bluetooth music streaming, hands-free calling, and USB-style charging, according to the company. When plugged into a vehicle’s 12-volt adapter, the Venturi Mini uses Bluetooth to stream stereo music from any A2DP phone and wirelessly route calls through the in-car sound system. The phone also features a built-in charger to power devices on-the-go and is designed to work with all vehicles. NextGen Venturi’s Venturi Mini is priced at $130, and will hit store shelves across the U.S. in December.

The Venturi Mini aims to become a personalized in-car radio station, playing music from an MP3 enabled phone using wireless A2DP Bluetooth technology. Featuring Bluetooth 2.0 EDR, the Venturi Mini allows users to transfer high quality stereo audio to a phone or MP3 player while connecting up to four separate Bluetooth devices, as well as an iPod or MP3 player by cable.

“Using new noise eliminating technology, the Venturi Mini provides crystal clear hands-free audio for mobile calling. A new generation of digital FM transmitter using RDBS technology displays information on the in-vehicle radio screen, including phonebook contacts, device menus and calling party identification,” NextGen Venturi said. “The Venturi Mini will automatically pause music to answer incoming calls and resume playback afterward.”

The Venturi Mini supports charging devices on-the-go, featuring a standard USB style 5v port. The accessory will continue to play music, take as well as make calls, and ensure connected devices are charged and ready for full use.

I live in the SF Bay Area, FM bandwidth is heavily congested here. I am unable to use the FM transmitter feature because of all the noise on every FM frequency (whether or not its in use by another radio station). Anybody who lives with congested airwaves will suffer the same fate as me.

The Phonebook Download feature only works on certain phones. It does not work on my Motorola RAZR2 V9m.

Emailed Venturi’s customer service on their web site about these issues. They essentially told me I’m SOL.

I’ll be returning this product since the features I wanted (and needed) to work don’t work.
