Verizon Wireless completes test of EV-DO Rev A

August 18th, 2005 · Source · No Comments

Verizon Wireless and Lucent have recently tested EV-DO Revision A, the next generation data technology that will replace EV-DO. The recent test included the industry’s first live over-the-air call using 1xEV-DO Rev A technology. A more extensive trial has been planned for 2006.

Verizon’s plans for the speedy 3G technology include VoIP and multimedia applications.

EV-DO Rev A has a theoretical up/down speed of 3.1/1.8Mbps though it was not announced what speeds were attained during the recent test.

Lucent’s CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Revision A infrastructure will be commercially available in 2006.
