Three million GSM/HSDPA subscribers in the world

April 16th, 2008 · Source [3G.co.uk] · No Comments

3G.co.uk reports that there are over six billion people on the Earth, and three million GSM subscribers…. a scary thought. Of course, quite a lot of people have more than one mobile phone, but still. This was announced by 3G Americas, based upon findings by Informa Telecoms and Media. Of the 3.5 billion mobile subscribers, an overwhelming, but, ultimately, unsurprising 88% of those are subscribed to the GSM family.

GSM technology still outperforms the various forms of communication technologies. To compare, there are 850 million PCs across the world, but, obviously, a PC costs more than your average phone. From March 2007-March 2008, there were over 100 million subscribers in Latim America, and the Caribbean, giving a total of 332 million subscribers in those two regions. And, in the Western Hemisphere, in 2007, there were 110 million subscribers, totalling 420 million.
