T-Mobile’s G1 Android phone seen in photos

T-Mobile's G1 Android

T-Mobile’s G1 smartphone has finally been spotted in a real-world photo, courtesy of an anonymous tip sent to Engadget. The design matches the FCC images and outside renderings exactly and carries both the T-Mobile branding as well as a near-final version of Google’s upcoming mobile operating system; the touchscreen, trackball, and hidden QWERTY keyboard are all present as they have been seen since the G1 was first seen as a prototype for Google in the past several months.

Internal features of the phone aren’t disclosed as part of the leak, though the G1 is known to support T-Mobile’s 3G network and should also have GPS and Wi-Fi as core features. Android itself was also said by Google to include its own dedicated app store, Android Market, which aims to centralize third-party software for the open-source OS in the same way the App Store supports the iPhone and iPod touch.

Most observers anticipate the G1 shipping in November as T-Mobile’s highest-profile device and an announcement in October, when the carrier will have a more substantial 3G network than it does today.
