February 1st, 2008 · Source [Cellular News] · No Comments

Purple MagicNXP Semiconductors and Purple Labs have introduced a Linux-powered phone Purple Magic for 3G networks. The key advantage of it is the price – less than $100, while the average price tag for 3G handsets currently varies from $120 to $145. The developers believe the Purple Magic will become a mass Linux-device for 3G networks and enjoy particularly high demand in South East Asia, Eastern Europe and Latin America. To be more exact, the companies suggest that mobile vendors and operators take the model as the core for their own solutions. The phone is based on NXP Nexperia 7210 platform for 3G networks and Linux mobile version by Purple Labs.
