Motorola has expanded its use of chips from Qualcomm. Today Motorola committed to using certain Qualcomm UMTS 3G chips in phones set for release in late 2008 and throughout 2009. It also released quarterly results for the end of 2007. Sales of its handsets dropped by 38% compared to the same quarter in 2006 to 41 million. The handset division suffered a $388 million loss for the quarter. Motorola CEO Greg Brown said turning the handset business around will take longer than expected.
