AT&T today launched the Sierra AirCard 881, the first HSUPA enabled data card in the US. The 881 has both quad-band EDGE and tri-band HSUPA, which is also compatible with HSDPA or UMTS if HSUPA is not available. Though it will not increase download speeds, HSUPA will increase upload speeds to 500-800 Kbps when it goes live later this year. AT&T will upgrade all current 3G areas to HSUPA throughout the rest of 2007 into early 2008 and will deploy HSUPA in all new 3G buildouts from now on. The AirCard 881 is free with a 2 year contract.
